Rehabilitation Robotics

The presentation will look at ways in which robotics technology is being applied to meet the needs of people with disabilities.  We will discuss applications, such as robotic wheelchairs and robotics technology embedded in smart environments, in which robots provide assistance for people in their daily activities.  We’ll also look at applications, such as robot-enhanced physical therapy and social robots, in which robots assist with rehabilitation therapy. Edmund LoPresti is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his PhD in bioengineering.  He is also president of AT Sciences, an assistive technology R&D firm where he has done work in robotic wheelchairs and smart homes.  He is a Senior Member of IEEE. This presentation is an event in the Robotics Week series presented in Second Life by IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).
